2016 Show Results
After attending 13 shows in 2015, we had hardly caught our breath when the season was upon us again. Chloe wasn’t on the string this year as we decided to attempt (one more time) to give her the opportunity to be a mom. Time for Sunni to step up! Even though this is still a pre-green year for her (she is only 2 for most of the year) there are enough in-hand classes to keep her and us busy.
Our season started, as always, with a trip to Kansas for Kansas Donkey Days. Phil was showing solo once again…he, Sunni and Bella did a fine job in spite of handling the show responsibilities without help. It had rained, and rained, and rained in Kansas prior to the show and the venue had to be switched as a result. Everyone made due and the show was a go. Sunni was on her game and walked away with High Point Champion – Pre-Green. Belladonna was awarded ACOSA Champion Jennet. Here are a few pics of the girls and Phil doing their thing…
Next off, the Texas Shoot-Out! Always one of our favorites and one of the most enjoyable shows of the year. This show is so well organized and the facilities are fabulous. It always goes off without a hitch…or at least as far as exhibitors are aware :-). Lots of camaraderie and good times in south Texas. One of the judges held a showmanship clinic on Friday night (she holds world championship titles in showmanship, we were told) so we were anxious to get some pointers. It paid off…Phil and Sunni won their showmanship class, by a hair… Sunni was again awarded High Point Champion – Pre-Green, she and Phil are on a roll! Bella placed 1st in halter (she was the only one in her class but we will take it, lol). Here are some shots of fun times in Texas:
Our final show of the season…The NMDA National Show held in Buffalo, TX. This was a fun show as we teamed up with our good friend Kathy Schmitt to help show her donkey Zephyr (Chloe’s brother). Kathy also brought Eva and Echo for halter so there were plenty of hands needed…AND that meant that our newest herdsire, Spikehorn Ranch Romeo (Chloe’s sire) could compete for Supreme Champion Sire! He is sire to all three of Kathy’s donkeys that competed in the National Show.
Echo and Zephyr won their halter classes and were awarded Reserve National Champion Jennet and Gelding.
Bella and Sunni both placed 4th in their halter classes. Bella placed 1st in her ACOSA Jennets at halter class and was awarded Champion ACOSA Jennet.
Sunni had turned 3 since her last show but was finishing off the year in Pre-Green, and what a finish. 1st Place in EVERY in hand class for the entire show…way to go Sunni.
And to top off a great show, Romeo was awarded GCDMA Supreme Champion Sire (the second time he has won this award).
We were very proud of our team…
